Who It's For

You're Not Alone — We've Seen It All

Credit issues come in all shapes and sizes. Whatever your situation, we'll give you an honest assessment and a clear path forward.

Defaults or Late Payments

A period of financial difficulty that left marks on your credit file. Specialist lenders consider how old the default is and your repayment behaviour since.

Court Judgements

An unpaid debt that escalated to a court judgement (CCJ). We work with lenders who can still consider your application depending on the amount and age.

Discharged Bankrupts

If you have been discharged from bankruptcy, some specialist lenders will consider lending — particularly with time elapsed and a clean record since discharge.

Declined by a Bank

A mainstream bank declined your application. Their rigid policies often miss the bigger picture — specialist lenders have more flexibility to say yes.

How We Help

Beyond the Score.
Your Full Story Matters.

Banks use automated credit scoring that often ignores context. Specialist lenders take a manual, case-by-case approach — looking at your income stability, the age of your credit issues, and the steps you've taken to get back on track.

In-Depth Credit Review

We analyse your credit file together before lodging anything — identifying the best lender fit and protecting your score from unnecessary enquiries.

Specialist Lender Access

We have relationships with non-bank and specialist lenders who are specifically set up to handle complex credit situations.

A Path to Mainstream Lending

Many clients refinance to a standard lender within 12–24 months. We plan your exit from day one so you don't pay higher rates longer than necessary.

FAQs

Bad Credit Loan FAQs

Honest answers to the questions we hear most from Kiwis navigating credit challenges.

Can I get a home loan with a bad credit history?

Yes — in many cases, you can. A bad credit history doesn't automatically close the door to home ownership. Specialist lenders assess your current financial position and repayment ability, not just your past. The type and age of your credit issues matter, and we'll be upfront about your realistic options after reviewing your situation.

What counts as 'bad credit' to a lender?

Common credit issues include missed or late payments, defaults, collections, court judgements (CCJs), a debt arrangement or management plan, or a previous bankruptcy. Some lenders also flag multiple recent credit enquiries. Not all of these are treated equally — a single old default is very different from a recent bankruptcy, and specialist lenders weigh them accordingly.

I was declined by my bank. Can you still help?

Absolutely. Being declined by a mainstream bank is one of the most common reasons people come to us. Banks have rigid credit policies that don't account for your full story. We work with specialist lenders who take a more holistic view — looking at your current income, stability, and the steps you've taken to improve your finances.

Will applying hurt my credit score further?

We're careful about this. Before lodging any formal application, we do a soft review of your situation to understand which lenders are the best fit. We don't shotgun your application to multiple lenders — each unnecessary credit enquiry can lower your score. We target the right lender first time.

Are interest rates higher for bad credit home loans?

Specialist lenders may charge a slightly higher rate to account for the perceived risk, but this isn't always the case — and it's often not permanent. Many clients refinance to a mainstream lender within 12–24 months once their credit profile improves. We always explain the full cost picture so you can make an informed decision.

How long does a default stay on my credit file in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, most negative credit information remains on your credit report for five years from the date it was listed. Serious credit infringements (such as a judgement) remain for seven years. Lenders view older defaults more favourably — especially if you've maintained a clean record since.

Do I need a larger deposit?

Not always, but it helps. A larger deposit reduces the lender's risk and can open up more options. However, some specialist lenders will consider applications with a standard deposit depending on the nature of your credit issues and your current financial situation. We'll tell you exactly where you stand after reviewing your position.

Is your service free if I have bad credit?

Yes — completely. Our advice is free regardless of your credit situation. We are paid a commission by the lender once your loan settles. There are no upfront fees, no consultation charges, and absolutely no obligation after your initial conversation with us.
